Amber Burnham
Senior Speech Pathologist, Speech Pathology Team Leader
Amber is our Speech Pathology Team Leader and has been with IRS since 2018. She has spent the majority of her career working in the community setting in both public and private sectors, after completing a Speech Pathology Degree at La Trobe University in 2006.
Amber has 20 years of experience working with clients with:
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Stroke
- Language and speech
- Progressive neurological disorders including Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington’s Disease
- Primary Progressive Aphasia
- Dysphagia (swallowing impairment), including eating and drinking with acknowledged risk
- Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)
Her special interest areas include aphasia, progressive neurological conditions (eg. Parkinson’s Disease, MS) and frontotemporal dementias, including primary progressive aphasia.
Amber focuses on client-centred care to support individuals’ capacity to achieve their goals. She finds it a true privilege to work with clients in their own homes and environments. She also appreciates the opportunity to help clients understand and adjust to a new phase of their life after an incident such as an acquired brain injury.
Amber is passionate about supporting clients to get back to the things that are important to them and she is a strong advocate for people with communication difficulties.
In her personal life, Amber enjoys good food and coffee, as well as hanging out at the beach or in the bush with her young family.
This year Amber will celebrate 7 years with IRS.
