Isabelle Tivey

Isabelle is a senior physiotherapist and has been with IRS for 6 years.

She has worked in a range of physiotherapy specialties in both private and public systems, across the whole spectrum of health – from admission into the Emergency Department, to helping clients achieve their goals in the community – but her passion has always been for neurological physiotherapy from the very beginning of her career.

Isabelle, or Izzy as she prefers, has a particular interest working with people who have had strokes or other acquired brain injuries, including traumatic brain injuries. She loves working to achieve more normal and functional movement patterns to maximise client independence, and has completed Basic Bobath training and completed two Advanced Bobath courses (so far!).

She also enjoys working from a very individual level, implementing her knowledge of managing various conditions and ‘bringing it all together’ to achieve client goals.

Izzy has extensive experience supporting clients in managing:

  • Mobility challenges and goals (from basic transfers to walking on the beach)
  • Spasticity and tone
  • Pressure care
  • Posture
  • Equipment needs
  • Gait disorders
  • Falls
  • Ataxia and other coordination challenges

Izzy supports clients to explore:

  • More independent walking or wheelchair-pushing
  • Aquatic therapy (hydrotherapy) and gym
  • Sports and recreation
  • Employment or volunteering opportunities
  • Specialised equipment prescription such as wheelchairs, standing frames, mobility aids, hoists, transfer aids
    motivation to achieve goals

Izzy loves working with new people and enjoys problem-solving to help clients achieve their goals.

Outside of work, Izzy loves doing all things aerial sports: pole, aerial hoop and aerial silks. When she’s not climbing things, hanging upside-down, or falling down from trying a crazy new hobby, she can be found tucked up on the couch with a cup of tea and a good book or a puzzle.

This year Izzy will celebrate 7 years with IRS.
